19-year-old soldier laid to rest in Shrub Oak

Friends, family and classmates shared feelings of disbelief as a Lakeland High School graduate was laid to rest at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak yesterday.

Elizabeth Lynch-Gonzalez, a 19-year-old Army private, took her own life last week after by jumping from the Tappan Zee Bridge.

Gonzalez was scheduled to be deployed to Texas the day she took her own life, and many suspect that Gonzalez was depressed that her deployment had been moved up from it's original date.

Chris Baez, who went to school with Gonzalez, says that Gonzalez?s death does not represent the kind of person that she was. ?You can ask any one of us ... it doesn't seem like her. She was always a cheerful person. She touched every one of our hearts.?
