Fatal motorcycle accident snarls I-87 traffic

One of the southbound lanes on I-87 is closed near the Sloatsburg rest area after a motorcyclist was killed this morning following a collision with another vehicle.

State Police say the accident happened around 9:30 a.m. when there was some sort of collision between the motorcyclist and a Jeep.

Initially, the accident was treated as a hit-and-run. However, the Jeep and the other driver were located half a mile down the road from the accident.

Troopers say the crash appears to have been some type of side-swipe accident, but an investigation is still ongoing.
