Marcotte takes Westchester's 10th District
Republican Sheila Marcotte took 58 percent of a special election vote this week, making her Westchester County's new legislator-elect for the county's 10th District.
Democrat Greg Varian received 42 percent, with voter turnout at about 10 percent, making Marcotte the official winner.
Marcotte, a mother of four, will replace long-time legislator Vito Pinto, who resigned in April to take a position in County Executive Rob Astorino's administration.
With Marcotte's victory, Republicans are now just one seat away from ending a Democratic supermajority on the County Board.
"I absolutely think the trend will continue," says News 12 GOP analyst Mike Edelman.
