Elmsford woman tricks armed ATM robber

An Elmsford woman managed to escape unharmed after she distracted an armed man who attempted to rob her at an ATM.

Noelia Camacho-Kelly says she pulled up to an ATM on West Main Street in Elmsford Monday morning and was approached by a masked man holding a gun.

She says the robber ordered her to withdraw all the money from her account. Camacho-Kelly pretended to punch in numbers and re-inserted her card backwards, causing an error. When the robber looked at the screen, she says she was able to escape.

Elmsford Police Chief Thomas Fennell says Camacho-Kelly did everything people should do in a similar situation.

Police say they arrested two people today, one of whom may be involved in the attempted ATM robbery.
