Strong winds tip over sailboat off New Rochelle

Three people found themselves stranded after their sailboat ended up on its side in the sand in the Long Island Sound today.

Strong wind gusts tipped over the 45-foot sailboat off Glen Island Park in New Rochelle. Parks Department employees say the vessel was on the wrong side of the buoy in shallow water, and therefore became stuck in the sand.

The three boaters say they weren?t hurt. They say they will remain aboard the boat until the tide comes at around 10 p.m.

Police say they will rescue the boaters if they change their minds.
