Protest held in Somers against mosque near Ground Zero

Family members of local Sept. 11 victims gathered at the 9/11 memorial in Bailey Park today to protest the construction of a 13-story mosque only 600 yards from Ground Zero.

The protesters say they aren't against Islam, but say nothing has been done to honor those who died in the terrorist attacks.

"I'm calling on New York Preservation Society to put an end to this, [and] they have power to do that," says Republican state Senate candidate Mary Beth Murphy, who joined the protesters.

Murphy says $5 million has been spent on the mosque, and she wants to know where that money came from.

A decision on the proposed mosque is expected to be made at the end of the summer.
