6-year-old girl OK after coyote attack

A 6-year-old girl is recovering after being attacked by two wild coyotes in her backyard Friday night.

According to police, the girl was running near the side of her house shortly after 9 p.m. when the coyotes ran toward her, tackled her and began biting her. The girl had suffered multiple bites and scratches to her thigh, shoulder and neck before her mother scared the coyotes away.

She was taken to Greenwich Hospital and later released.

The coyotes weren?t found, but police say they have hired a private trapping company to handle the town's coyote problem.

Police said they assume the coyotes that bit the girl are rabid, although medical tests will have to be done to confirm that.
