Yonkers police, Messiah Baptist Church rally against budget cuts

Yonkers police officers and members of the Messiah Baptist Church rallied over the weekend to protest budget cuts that would require several police layoffs.

Police Union President Keith Olson says due to the city's budget crisis, nine police officers could be laid off and eight supervisors demoted if the budget is approved on Thursday.

The Reverend Daryl George met with some of the officers Sunday to let them know his congregation is joining in their fight to save their jobs.

George says he plans to hold a large community forum later this week to further put pressure on city leaders not to make cuts to the police department.
