New Tappan Zee Bridge could have 8 lanes
Transit officials unveiled plans for a large-scale bridge to replace the Tappan Zee last night that include increased road space for commuters of all kinds.
Plans for a replacement bridge include four lanes in each direction, a pair of bus lanes, railroad tracks in each direction and a bike path.
Officials say there are six different plans being considered, three of them that are single-level and three bi-level plans. Total costs could reach as much as $6 billion.
Hundreds of residents attended the first public information session on the plan in White Plains last night. The second open house is scheduled for tomorrow at the Palisades Center Adler Community Room in West Nyack from 4 - 8 p.m.
Construction could begin in 2013 if the necessary funding is raised.
