Search for wild coyotes intensifies in Rye

Police in Rye are working with animal specialists to find and trap the coyotes responsible for two recent attacks on young children in the city.

A 6-year-old was attacked last Friday while playing in her backyard. A 3-year-old was also attacked Tuesday night while with a 6-year-old playmate, also in her backyard. Neither was seriously injured.

Parents are being asked to keep their children indoors until the coyotes are captured.

Rye Police Commissioner William Connors says they have increased patrols at night, when coyotes have been known to go on the prowl.

Rep. Nita Lowey (D-District 18) has sent a letter asking officials at the U.S. Department of Agriculture to help Rye deal with its coyote problem.
