Fears of more summer gang violence in Yonkers

Yonkers Police Commissioner Edmund Hartnett says that ongoing strife between gangs in Yonkers is likely to blame for four shootings that have occurred in less than one week in the city.

The most recent shooting occurred yesterday morning just before 3 a.m. next to Grant Park. Witnesses tell police that two men were standing next to a car when people started firing shots out of another vehicle.

On Monday, three Gorton High School students were shot in what police are calling a gang retaliation shooting on Walnut Street. On Tuesday, one man was shot in a building lobby on Palisade Avenue, and last week, another two men were murdered in the city.

Anyone with any information on any of these violent incidents is asked to call Yonkers police at (914) 377-7724. All calls will be kept confidential.
