Defense fund established for accused Russian spies

The son of accused Russian spy Vicky Pelaez has set up a fund to help raise money for attorney fees.

Pelaez and her husband, known as Juan Lazaro, were arrested for allegedly serving as secret agents of the Russian government in the United States, the Justice Department announced last week.

Pelaez's son, 38-year-old Waldo Mariscal, says his mother is innocent.

Many residents told News 12 Westchester they don't feel the accused spies should even have the right to solicit donations.

Mariscal says his mother will be under house arrest at their home in Yonkers beginning Tuesday. In the meantime, the couple remains in federal custody.
