Haverstraw ballfield dedicated in honor of fallen soldier

Officials in Haverstraw dedicated a baseball field yesterday to the memory of a fallen soldier who was killed in Baghdad five years ago.

Cpl. Manny Lopez, a lifelong Haverstraw resident, was killed in the line of duty at the age of 20 in April 2005.

The Village of Haverstraw built the baseball field in Lopez's honor.

Lopez's mother, Yolanda, says she and her family are touched that the town has created something to memorialize her son's sacrifice.

The Haverstraw Little League and the Quisqueya Sports Club will share the field.
