Body of WC firefighter pulled from Long Island Sound

Mount Vernon Engine Company #5 is mourning the loss of a veteran firefighter whose body was located in the Long Island Sound yesterday after his disappearance last weekend.

James Drago had been a Mt. Vernon firefighter for 12 years, and his co-workers describe him as a dedicated rescuer who always pitched in.

Drago, a 49-year-old father of three, was boating with a friend in Larchmont last Saturday when he jumped into the water and never resurfaced, according to his friend.

Drago's body was located nearly a mile from where he was reported to have gone missing. The medical examiner will be conducting an autopsy.

Mt. Vernon Fire Chief Alfarid Salahuddin says that his thoughts, and the thoughts of his department, are with Drago's family now.
