Reduced trash pickups, heat make for garbage hell

A mix of humidity and high temperatures is creating hellish conditions in Yonkers where garbage is piling up along sidewalks because of reduced pickups.

Residents say they have not had a garbage pickup for four days, making for mountains of trash bags along city streets after people spent the weekend grilling or cooking for friends and family. On top of the mountains of garbage, the heat is now creating overwhelming stenches in neighborhoods where the trash still remains.

Trash is scheduled to be picked up tomorrow but garbage collectors tell News 12 that they are behind because of the layoffs and new routes.
