2 near drownings at Rockland Lake State Park

Two people were in serious condition after nearly downing at Rockland Lake State Park in Congers this weekend.

Park officials say the combination of the holiday weekend and the increasingly hot temperatures caused thousands to flock to the pool at Rockland State Park, making it difficult to spot potential swimming hazards.

Staff members say they recognize the high turnout and in response, shut down the pool and turned many people away.

Another person also passed out near the pool due to heat stroke, according to staff members.
