Mt. Kisco man drowns after canoe capsizes in Bedford

A Mount Kisco man drowned Monday after a canoe he was riding in with his brothers capsized in about 14 feet of water.

Police say the men were visiting a relative who was employed at a private residence on Greenwich Road in Bedford when their boat capsized.

Two of the brothers were able to swim about 12 feet to the shore of the Mianus River. The third, Biron Perez, remained underwater after the incident.

Investigators say Perez was recovered from the water and taken to the Northern Westchester Hospital, where he died.

Police do not believe alcohol was a factor, and say none of the men were wearing life vests.
