Working in the heat a must for some
Westchester County residents did their best to stay cool today and outside the grip of a smothering heat wave.
For some, however, being outside is a necessity. Postal carrier Frank Bjerke has no choice.
"I carry about four bottles of water," he says.
Deliveryman Al Niciu, of Yonkers, says he has a formula for keeping cool.
"Taking in a lot of fluids," he says. "Trying to stay in the shade."
A record-high temperature for this date in White Plains was set earlier today when the mercury hit 101 degrees. The previous high was 99 degrees in 1999.
