Professor at Valhalla college killed in NJ plane crash

An associate dean and professor at New York Medical College in Valhalla was killed along with two relatives in a plane crash Monday evening in New Jersey.

Authorities say Dr. Margaret Smith, 70, of Manhattan, was piloting the single-engine plane that also carried Michael Ferguson and his wife, Theresa. The three were returning from a trip to Plattsburgh when something went wrong as they were attempting to land.

New York Medical College released a statement, saying the entire campus community is ?deeply saddened,? and that ?the college has lost a gifted educator and esteemed colleague.?
