3 exposed to toxic chemicals in Croton

Cops say that a chemical, most likely ammonium hydroxide, that was crushed in the back of a garbage truck is likely to blame for causing three people to become ill yesterday morning on Old Post Road in Croton.

Someone called 911 just after 9:30 a.m. to report that three men had been overcome by fumes emanating from a garbage truck.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene where one person had lost consciousness and collapsed. The other two victims were sickened by the incident, but remained conscious.

The man who collapsed was rushed to Westchester Medical Center where he has reportedly regained consciousness.

Investigators are still trying to determine what chemical may have caused the illnesses, and where it came from.
