Clarkstown police search for synagogue vandals

A New City synagogue that has been closed for months was vandalized over the weekend.

Herb Boxer, of the West Clarkstown Jewish Center, says he was horrified when he discovered the vandalism. He says the most heinous thing he found was some form of human defecation on the center of the floor.

Clarkstown police say someone broke in and smeared construction spackle on the windows and walls. They say the incident appears to be random.

The building has been under construction since last summer after nearly being destroyed in a fire. Synagogue leaders say they are not going to let the vandalism stop them from holding a re-dedication ceremony in August.

Anyone with information is asked to call Clarkstown Police at 845 639-5800.
