Neighbors grin, bear it through Indian Point siren test

Entergy officials say that all but one of the 172 sirens at the Indian Point power plant sounded in a test this morning.

People living within a 10-mile radius of the nuclear facility are able to hear the sirens, but Chris Calamari, of Yorktown Auto Body, says that he doesn't mind since the tests are conducted to preserve the safety of area residents.

"You've got to test the system," Calamari says. "The system has to work. If it doesn't work, we're goners."

Entergy officials say the one failed siren, located in Harriman, is being investigated.
