NY transit board approves bridge, tunnel hikes

Drivers using the bridges and tunnels controlledby the MTA are going to have to dig deeper into their pockets topay the tolls.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority board on Wednesdayapproved a toll increase that would go into effect at the end ofthe year.

Drivers paying cash at crossings including the Queens Midtowntunnel and the Throgs Neck bridge would pay $6.50, up from $5.50.Drivers using E-ZPass would pay $4.80, up from $4.57.

The increase comes a couple of weeks after the MTA boardapproved fare hikes for the city's subways, buses and commuterrails.
