Yorktown town employees receive grim notice; layoffs possible

Town employees in Yorktown say they were shocked by a letter that they received in their most recent paycheck from the town supervisor, warning of grim financial times and possible layoffs.

Highway Superintendent Eric DiBartolo says that not one department head in the town knew about Supervisor Susan Siegel's letter until they received it.

"My employees got their paychecks, 36 of them, and all of a sudden possibly there are things going on," DiBartolo said.

No pink slips have gone out yet, but Siegel's letter suggests that while she made every effort to cut wasteful spending, layoffs might be the only possibility to avoid a massive tax hike.

Siegel was unavailable for comment.
