Newburgh police continue to probe double-murder

Newburgh police are continuing to investigate the double-murder of an ex-cop and his nephew after their bodies were discovered in a vacant house on Liberty Street on Thursday.

Police say Francis Piscopo, 49, who was an officer in the Town of Lloyd Police Department and his nephew, Gerald Piscopo were found shot to death in the house.

Officials say Piscopo, who left the police department 20 years ago, has a troubled past including being accused of selling marijuana, accused of intimidating a witness and accused of stealing from the police department.

Police are unsure why the two were in the house, which Francis Piscopo lived in 11 years ago with his ex-wife and kids.

Police ask anyone with information to call them at 845-561-3131.
