Deadline today for sickened 9/11 workers to accept settlement

Today is the deadline for any sickened 9/11 workers to either accept a legal settlement offered by the city, or to try to sue on their own.

More than 10,000 workers have sued over various health issues they are now experiencing after helping with the massive cleanup following the Sept. 11 attacks at ground zero.

The settlement currently being offered is worth $815 million, with plaintiffs receiving anywhere from $7,000 to $1 million depending on the severity of their sickness.

Anyone who accepts the settlement enters an agreement that they cannot pursue any further legal action against the city. Anyone who does not accept the settlement will be left to pursue legal action on their own accord.
