2 lawsuits filed for gays, lesbians seeking federal benefits
Two lawsuits have been filed on behalf of gay and lesbian couples seeking to receive federal benefits.
The lawsuits represent couples in Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire and New York. They are following in the steps of a case in Boston, which ended with a judge striking down a key provision of the federal Defense of Marriage Act.
The involvement of multiple federal district courts may prompt the Supreme Court to consider the issue.
