Official: Greenburgh FDs need to save money not merge
An independent study has concluded that while several Greenburgh fire departments are in need of cost-saving measures, a merger of the three is out of the question.
An independent study rejected the merging of the Fairview, Hartsdale and Greenview fire departments in an effort to save money.
The nine-member panel did agree, however, that consolidation is needed to save the departments from ultimate failure.
"We believe the perfect storm is coming," Commission Chair Alan Hochberg said at a commission meeting yesterday morning.
The members of the commission concluded that the state law allowing for the merging of the three departments is so confusing that it would make the plan nearly unworkable.
