Mount Vernon Hospital slated for multimillion-dollar upgrade

Instead of closing, the Mount Vernon Hospital is set to receive a multimillion-dollar upgrade.

The hospital has faced years of financial struggles, but thanks to the state Department of Health, the hospital will be expanding.

Under the current plan, the hospital's emergency room will be doubled in size and a senior-care facility will be added.

While the project will save the 120-year-old hospital, officials say that 100 jobs will be cut during the upgrades.

Construction is expected to start in the next couple of months.
