Controversial church expected to protest Nyack play

Nyack High School's performance of "The Laramie Project," a play based on the murder of a gay student, is drawing protest from the infamous Westboro Baptist Church.

The church is known for protesting military funerals, citing the soldiers' deaths as retribution from God for acceptance of homosexuality.

The church announced its plans to protest the play Friday on its website.

The Clarkstown Police Department says it will have extra officers on duty in case things get out of hand.

School officials say that the protesters will not be allowed on school grounds.
