Hundreds pack Yonkers library for WC budget hearing

Hundreds of fired-up Westchester County residents packed the Yonkers Riverfront Library last night as the first of three public meetings to discuss the 2011 county budget was held.

County Executive Rob Astorino released his $1.8 billion budget proposal last week, a proposal that calls for the elimination of hundreds of jobs and cuts in some county services.

Astorino says that his proposed cuts could reduce the current tax levy by 1 percent, but residents say they're still worried that cuts could be painful, and potentially hurt both residents and workers alike.

County legislators say they hope to have the budget finalized by mid-December.
