Hunger advocates gather in Mount Vernon

Hunger advocates gathered in Mount Vernon today to call for more to be done to stamp out hunger.

The executive director of Community Services Association, Roberta Apuzzo, says she feeds several hundred meals to the hungry every week. On the night before Thanksgiving, she says she expects to feed about 200 people.

Activists say the number of people going without food has been increasing and that they are looking for more help from the community and all levels of government.

Apuzzo says this time of year, people are more aware of the suffering of others, but that the awareness should extend beyond the holiday season.
