WC councilmember proposes private, Catholic school tax credit

Yonkers City Councilwoman Joan Gronowski is introducing a tax credit bill that failed last year in the hopes that it will assist local parents in sending their kids to private and Catholic schools.

Gronowski says that with all of the closings of Hudson Valley Catholic elementary schools, it is crucial that parents get financial assistance in helping send their kids to the schools that they feel are the best fit.

"This is a credit where [parents will] get an actual deduction on their taxes," Gronowski says.

Gronowski says that she came up with the idea because if Catholic schools continue to close, it will create a huge burden for public schools, like those in Yonkers.
