WC food bank hands out meals to 208 local agencies

A northern Westchester food bank says that after collecting hundreds of holiday food donations, its main focus Wednesday was getting the donations out the door and to the multitude of organizations and families who desperately need them.Volunteers from the Youth Shelter program in Mount Vernon were in Millwood at the Food Bank of Westchester to load up a minivan with food.Food Bank Senior Director Katie Coppinger says that the donations were distributed to some 208 members throughout the area, and that this year, the lists for demands were much longer.

"We saw the need increase over 30 percent from the previous year and unfortunately this year we're not seeing that change in any way," Coppinger added. "So every order that we get from one of our agencies is larger then the previous order so the need is tremendous."
