Cops: Yonkers man killed self after morning standoff

Police say a Yonkers man who barricaded himself in a stairwell of his apartment building this morning died of injuries he inflicted upon himself.

The incident occurred at 230 Yonkers Ave. when police responded to a call from an emotionally disturbed man inside his apartment. Police say the man, whose identity is being withheld, managed to cut his throat before they could disarm him.

The man was transported to St. Joseph?s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The 29-year-old man?s wife says he had been struggling with mental illness in the past. She says the incident could be related to their recent separation.
