Rumble strips placed along Route 9 in Cortlandt
In order to curb the number of fatalities on Route 9 in Cortlandt, the Department of Transportation has placed down rumble strips.
Rumble strips are built into the road causing an audible rumbling and tactile vibrations throughout the vehicle when driven upon.
In the last five years, seven people have died in car accidents along the route.
Transportation officials have extended the 45 mph speed limit through the entire stretch of Route 9. They are also installing lights near residential neighborhoods.
