Mt. Vernon man awarded $2.4M in police-brutality case

A Mount Vernon man has been awarded $2.4 million in a police-brutality lawsuit against the Yonkers Police Department.

Dedan Wilson says he is elated that a federal jury found two Yonkers police officers liable for brutally beating him back in June 2007.

Wilson says he suffered multiple lifelong injuries from the beating and now walks with a cane.

Yonkers police have been under investigation by the U.S. Justice Department for the past two years over allegations of excessive force.

In a statement, city officials said they plan on petitioning the court and if the court denies it, they will seek an appeal.
