Art students dress up North Broadway store windows

Student artists from Yonkers took to Getty Square this morning armed with brushes and paint to decorate store windows with winter and holiday scenes.

Some 40 Lincoln High School art students teamed up with the Yonkers Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) in an effort to draw crowds to stores along North Broadway.

"We're here to support the downtown businesses by bringing the holiday sprit and making it beautiful," says art teacher Marion Kass.

Throughout the holiday season, the Business Improvement District has been sponsoring a series of events to attract people to the area with the hope that they'll do some of their holiday shopping there.

In the long term, BID Director Steve Sansone says he wants to make the Getty Square area a shopping destination.

The students' window displays will be formally unveiled Friday afternoon.
