Yonkers fire guts home, nearly destroys adjacent house
Officials say a fire gutted a Yonkers home this morning and nearly burned a neighboring home to the ground.
Firefighters arrived to 13 Gunther Ave. around 5:30 a.m. to find the first and second floor of the home engulfed in flames.
Investigators say that the fire appears to have started on the first-floor of the home, where some renovations were being made, but that both first-floor residents and their cat were able to escape to safety.
One firefighter was hospitalized after slipping and falling while battling the inferno in the below-freezing conditions.
The side of a neighboring home melted from the heat of the fire, but crews were able to prevent any further damage to the inside of that home.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
