Massive fire rips through building in Mt. Vernon

A fire broke out in a commercial building early this morning on the Bronx-Mount Vernon border.

The building is located at 230 South 12th Ave. in Mount Vernon.

The FDNY responded first to the fire, but the Mount Vernon Fire Department was called after it was determined the building was located on the Mount Vernon side of the border.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire but not before most of the contents of the business were destroyed and a neighboring business was damaged.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze but say the building should be repairable.
