Mele pleads not guilty in Garza murder

The Orange County sex offender charged with the murder of an aspiring New York City dancer appeared in court today and pleaded not guilty to the crime.

Michael Mele was charged last week in the murder of Laura Garza, who went missing more than two years ago and whose body was eventually discovered in a Pennsylvania field in April.

Garza was seen leaving the Marquee nightclub in Manhattan with Mele, but was never seen or heard from again.

Mele is currently in jail on an unrelated parole violation and is being held without bail on the murder charges.
