12-year-old in coma after being hit by elderly WC driver

A 12-year-old boy is in a coma today after he was hit by a car while crossing the street in Peekskill over the weekend.

Police say that the boy was struck around 9 p.m. Saturday on Route 9 near Welcher Avenue by a car with a 78-year-old driver.

Investigators say that the boy's dark clothing may have been a factor in the crash, and that the driver remained on the scene after hitting the boy.

No charges have been filed against the driver. The child is currently at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.
