County Exec. Astorino issues line-item vetoes to 2011 budget

As expected, County Executive Rob Astorino (R-Westchester) issued a number of vetoes to the recently passed county budget for 2011.

Astorino issued 247 line-item vetoes, saying he couldn't approve the phony revenues, wasteful spending and unfunded liabilities. Many of the items that were vetoed included items that the County Board added, such as continued funding for a county-run day care center, homeless shelter and health care center.

The County Board will meet next week to discuss possible overrides of the vetoes. Democrats expect a number of items to be overridden, but say they do expect some vetoes to stand.

A county budget must be in place by Dec. 27.
