Cops: Christmas comes with checkpoint crackdown

Westchester County police say that at least four people were arrested overnight at a DWI checkpoint along the Cross County Parkway, and that they expect to have many more arrests as they begin to increase the number of checkpoints during the holiday season.

State, local and county police say they are all stepping-up their patrols as part of a nationwide crackdown on drunken driving during the traffic-heavy holiday weeks.

Police say that while last night's checkpoint along the Cross County Parkway off of the Hutchinson River Parkway caused a traffic backup, it still netted four arrests, mostly for drunken driving, and at least one arrest was allegedly drug related.
