GM's first electric car goes on sale in Westchester

General Motors' first electric vehicle, the Chevy Volt, is now available across Westchester County. The car gets 100 miles to the gallon and can be plugged into a regular 120-volt outlet. When fully charged, the Chevy Volt can go 40 miles before having to switch it to gas power."Just as a reference point, electricity costs you 1 - 2 cents per mile," says Frank Endress, of New Rochelle Chevrolet. "Gasoline costs you 10 to 15 cents a mile." The Chevy Volt comes with a price tag of more than $40,000. Potential buyers will need to get on a waiting list, and it may take six to eight months before they can get behind the wheel of the car.
