Lawmakers clash on fairness of WC budget process
Democratic County Board Chairman Ken Jenkins and Republican leader Jim Maisano are clashing over how fair the process was when Westchester lawmakers came up with their budget for next year. During a taping of News 12's "Newsmakers" program, the men agreed things went well for most of the year, but Maisano argues fairness disappeared when budget negotiations came down to the wire. He claims the Democratic majority kept Republicans from having involvement in the final outcome and even though GOP lawmakers supported the plan, it doesn't mean they liked the final product. Jenkins disagrees and insists GOP lawmakers had ample opportunity to offer changes to the budget originally proposed by Astorino. The county executive issued 247 line-item vetoes to the budget and calls it a financial disaster. The lawmakers will meet next Thursday to decide whether or not to override the vetoes.
