Car plows into home of Rye city manager

Police say a driver fell asleep at the wheel early Thursday and crashed into the home of Rye City Manager Scott Pickup.

At around 3 a.m., a 24-year-old Rye man dozed off while driving his white Mercedes Benz, police say. The car jumped the curb and plowed into the living room of the Osborn Avenue home, where Pickup and his family were sleeping.

The front of the house now bears a gaping hole, covered by a blue tarp.

Investigators say no one was injured in the crash and that alcohol was not a factor.
