Retailers see increase in holiday sales
It was a good holiday shopping season for retailers as sales were up significantly, the best in about five years.
The big gains in holiday sales is a sign of growing optimism for some retailers, who prefer a green Christmas over a white one.
The reason for this is that too much white stuff keeps the green stuff in people's wallets, at home. The blizzard conditions on Sunday and the massive cleanup on Monday did keep some people home though.
Across the nation, holiday sales were up 5.5 percent over last year, which is the best sale increase since the recession started.
Despite this, unemployment remains high and the Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index took a hit in the past month.
