Blizzard expected to be costly for Yonkers

Days after the Dec. 26 blizzard struck, snowplows have finally come through most streets in Yonkers.

The new issue for Yonkers will be the cost of the cleanup, preliminarily estimated at $200,000.

Yonkers Department of Public Works Commissioner John Liszewski says that because the storm hit on a Sunday, it meant that workers were paid double-time and with all of the snow, overtime added up as well.

The city allocated $1.55 million for snow cleanup this season.

Officials are asking residents to make sure that storm drains are kept clear so that the snowmelt can drain away with the expected weekend rain.

Main streets clear; sidewalks and side streets still buried
