Rash of brazen home burglaries hits Rye

Police say they are searching for suspects in a string of brazen home burglaries that has hit Rye.

According to investigators, four homes in Rye and another in Port Chester were all burglarized in one day, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Police say the thieves pried open windows and kicked down doors, targeting homes whose owners were not at home.

Investigators say the burglars made off with jewelry and expensive electronics.

For residents who left to celebrate the new year, police offered some tips. Homeowners should try to leave a car parked in the driveway and turn on indoor lights, televisions and radios so burglars believe someone is at home. Police also say any suspicious activity should be reported immediately.
